Saaz is one of the four original Noble hops, with a distinctive and classic aroma. Known for its extensive use in many Bohemian lagers and pilsners. The warm, herbaceous character comes from the high farnesene content, while the other oils are well balanced.
With such a low alpha content, Saaz is definitely an aromatic hop, but when used for bittering it provides a mild bitterness. Additionally, the increased polyphenol content helps reduce oxidation, so beers made with Saaz have a longer shelf life.
